The much-awaited sports
event ICC cricket world cup 2019 has started from 30 May 2019 in England and
Wales. This is the 12th edition of One Day International Cricket World Cup and
10 International teams are participating in this tournament. The teams contesting
in this World Cup are Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, West Indies, and South Africa. The first
match had already been played between England and South Africa. England won the
match by 104 runs. Ben Stokes with his all-round performance become the first
man of the match of the tournament.
The Final match of the
tournament will be played on 14 July 2019 at Lord's. This is the fifth ICC ODI
Cricket World Cup that is being hosted by England and Wales. Earlier in 1975,
1979, 1989, 1999, this tournament happened in England and Wales.
The format of this World
Cup is different from the last one. This time it is round-robin format in the
group stage. All ten teams will play in a single group, so each team is going
to play each other once in the group stage. Hence every team will play 9
matches and a total of 45 matches are scheduled in the group stage. After the
group stage matches the top four teams will move to the knockout stage. Earlier
this format was used in 1992 although 9 teams played in World Cup 1992. Top
Four teams from the group stage will play in Semi-Finals which are scheduled on
9 July and 11 July 2019. Winners of the Semifinals will further play in the
final match at Lord's on 14 July 2019.
The first ICC ODI
Cricket World Cup was held in 1975 and West Indies won that World Cup.
Australia is the most successful team in ODI Cricket World Cup history as it
won the World Cup record five times.
